Story Medical Senior Care to Partner with Western Home Communities

Story Medical Senior Care, a provider of long-term care for older adults since 1965, has entered a management partnership with Western Home Communities of Cedar Falls. The partnership will assist Story Medical in managing the administrative functions of Senior Care.

“As long-term care has become increasingly complex from a regulatory standpoint, it made sense to us to identify a partner with vast experience who could take a leadership role in managing those functions,” says Nate Thompson, Story Medical CEO. “For our residents and their family members, this will be seamless. They will continue to receive the same compassionate, personalized care we have built our reputation on over the last five-plus decades.”

Story Medical will continue to employ all staff members of Senior Care and the board structure will remain consistent, with local directors providing oversight and decision-making. Western Home Communities will employ an administrator for Senior Care and offer support services in clinical management, business development, administrative duties and process improvement.

The service will also retain the Story Medical Senior Care name.

Emily Murtha, an employee of Western Home Communities, will be the on-site administrator. Murtha graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a double major in business administration and gerontology/long-term care administration.

“We appreciate the employee longevity and strong commitment to quality care at Story Medical Senior Care. It makes our organizations a good fit for one other,” says Matt Garcia, Chief Business Development Officer at Western Home Communities. “Health care changes and regulations have provided a unique challenge to providers like Story Medical Senior Care. A partnership like this makes sense.”
