With each day that passes the newest addition to the Story Medical south campus draws closer to completion. The 32,000 square foot addition sits on the south side of the current facility and will offer space for the Story Medical primary care clinic, cardiac rehabilitation and wellness, and physical, occupational and speech therapy.
The project is expected to wrap up in early 2017. The addition is being financed with a loan from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and is expected to cost approximately $15 million. A portion of the project is also being funded through a capital campaign of the Story County Medical Center Foundation.
Story Medical Interim CEO Nate Thompson says the project is necessary to meet the increasing demand for the programs and services of Story Medical.
“Our goal is to offer an environment that fosters healing for our patients, is comfortable for our visitors and spurs efficiency for our dedicated staff,” Thompson says. “In developing the vision for this addition we have addressed each of these priorities.”
Each of the services moving to the new addition is currently offered from the Story Medical north campus in downtown Nevada. The only service that will remain at the north facility is senior care. Thompson says there are no specifics on when senior care will move.
“We have a vision for that, but as far as a hard timeline, it’s impossible to tell,” Thompson says. “Long-term our goal is to have our breadth of services offered from a single campus and we are working toward that.”
