In celebration of National Doctor’s Day, the Story Medical Clinic staff sounded the trumpets for their healthcare providers! National Doctors' Day is held every year on March 30th in the United States. It is a day to celebrate the contribution of the healthcare providers who serve our country by caring for its citizens. “Our Docs Rock,” was the chosen theme for the Story Medical Clinic celebration this year.
Story Medical employs nine healthcare providers throughout the Story Medical Clinic system – Art Check, DO; Kelly Check, DPM; Shane Higgins, PA-C; Christine Jensen, MD; Adrian Palar, MD; and Mary Carr Peterson, PA-C, in Nevada; David Black, PA-C, in Maxwell; Jyl Wonnell, PA-C, in Slater; and Mary F. O’Connor, ARNP, in Zearing.
The staff of Story Medical Clinics tye-dyed “Our Docs Rock” t-shirts and wore them on Doctor’s Day. They also commission homemade cards that included the theme and photos of the clinic staff for each provider.
In addition, decorated boxes were placed in the reception area of all four clinics. Patients were asked to fill out a short form about their doctor. The staff filled out the forms also and then presented them to the providers.
A large bulletin board with the slogan “Our Docs Rock,” and musical instrument cutouts was on display in the Nevada clinic, and in lieu of a potluck, the staff chose a fondue luncheon. Everybody brought dips and fondues for quite a spread!
The first Doctor's Day observance was March 30, 1933, in Winder, Georgia. Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond, decided to set aside a day to honor physicians. On October 30, 1990, President George Bush signed S.J. RES. #366 (which became Public Law 101-473) designating March 30th as "National Doctor's Day."
