Story County Medical Center Auxiliary
What is the Story Medical Auxiliary?
The Story County Medical Center Auxiliary is a volunteer group of individuals that contribute time and talent to Story County Medical Center, Story Medical Senior Care, and the outlying Story Medical Clinics. Their main activities include sorting and delivering the mail, being an active part in our Senior Care unit's activities, assisting Senior Care with different planned outings, and helping the Medical Center wherever they are needed. One of their largest responsibilities is taking care of the Gift Shop and keeping items current with the season to ensure a wide variety of pieces. All of the revenues that are raised from sales in the gift shop go directly back to the Medical Center.
In 1963 the Hospital Auxiliary was formed from the Nevada Federated Women's Club. Their duties were much the same as they are today: running the gift shop, organizing blood drives, and providing needed services for the hospital patients.
Since then, the Auxiliary has contributed in many ways to Story Medical, both with the revenues from the gift shop and annual dues and with their time and talent. From smaller projects like providing televisions to patients on Acute in the 1980’s (before all hospital rooms had televisions) to the extremely generous $10,000 donation in December 2009 to Story Medical’s building project, the Auxiliary is a vital part to the success of Story Medical.
In 2009, when the South Campus of Story County Medical Center opened, the Auxiliary took on the responsibility of running two gift shops: the North Campus Gift Shop that serves the Senior Care residents, their families, and staff, and Clocktower Coffee & Gifts located at the South Campus. With extra space available at the North Campus, the Auxiliary moved into a larger area that allows for more merchandise and more accessibility to Senior Care residents. In April 2010, the Auxiliary turned the former gift shop space into “Craft Corner,” an area of the gift shop dedicated to handcrafted items made by local artists.
Today, the Auxiliary provides the same great services to Story Medical that they have since 1963. Auxiliary Board meetings are held the second Thursday of each month, and an annual meeting for all members is in June. Any questions can be directed to
